“Juliet?” Josh frowned at her silence.
Juliet grew paler and paler by the minute, and little drops of sweat started to trickle down from her forehead. Her hazel brown eyes darted back and forth, from Josh to the people surrounding them.
“I… I…” Juliet nervously tugged at her long sleeves, shaking her head apologetically.
Her friend, Cassie, attempted to place a reassuring hand in hers to give her an little squeeze. However, Juliet flinched at Cassie’s touch and instead, bolted towards the exit beneath.
“Juliet!” Josh bellowed in rage. Just when he was about to chase after her, Cassie pulled him into a tight embrace. Spectators gasped in surprise and whispers soon followed.
After what seemed like an eternity, Josh spoke through gritted teeth, “Cassie, let go of me.” Cassie released her grip on his waist almost immediately and tried to search his eyes for an answer. But what met her gaze were hostile blue eyes.
Distraught, Cassie dragged her feet down the stairs and wandered off towards the toilet. It was as if her soul had been sucked out of her. And the girls who had been sitting with her, trailed behind her quietly.
Exasperated, Josh raised his arm up high and slammed the bouquet of 99 roses onto the ground. The crowd hastily dispersed, astonished by his actions.
“Well… That went well,” Aaron turnt to Chad, who didn’t look as amused. In fact, Chad’s thick, dark brows creased into a straight line and his lips were pressed into a thin line. “Chad?” Aaron questioned worriedly as Chad clenched his fists.
Unable to contain his anger any longer, he stormed out the door and dashed straight towards Josh. Aaron ran after him, afraid that he would do something rash.
“What was that all about?” Chad grabbed Josh by the collar until he lifted him slightly off the ground.
“What do you think you’re doing, dork? You’d better let go of me right now,” Josh struggled to keep his footing while he hung onto Chad’s forearms.
“Are you and Cassie a thing too?” Chad hissed as his jaw tightened.
“So what if we are?” Josh convulsed with laughter.
Chad freed Josh from his clutch. Then, within milliseconds, he balled his left hand into a fist and aimed to strike Josh’s cheek.
“Ow!” Aaron shrieked as he cradled his face in his hands.
“Haha, what’s the matter? Can’t touch me? I’m right here,” Josh mocked.
“Yeah? You asked for it!” Chad reached out to grab Josh but Aaron managed to hold him back. “He’s not worth it Chad,” Aaron said in a serious tone.
“Get out of my way Aaron, I don’t want to hurt you again,” Chad tried to push Aaron to the side, but Aaron remains rooted to the ground. “Then don’t do this. This isn’t like you,” Aaron pleaded.
Chad glared at him in protest, however, with Aaron’s persistence, Chad finally backed down.
“Coward,” Josh taunted.
“Hey, lay off would you? Besides, I think you’ve got your hands full now that you need to please two girls. Better hurry before both of them says goodbye to your sorry ass.” Aaron said in a sarcastic tone.
The corners of Chad’s mouth turnt upwards and he could barely hide a chuckle. Aaron spun Chad around and the both of them climbed their way back to the press box, leaving Josh alone once again.
Back in the press box, the two guys pack up the equipment unspeaking.
First to break the awkward silence was Chad, much to Aaron’s surprise. “Aaron, thanks… And I’m sorry I hit you…” Chad trailed off. “What did you say? I can’t hear you bro,” Aaron teased, and the both of them broke into a fit of giggles.
“Just promise me you won’t do that again,” Aaron requested earnestly. After careful consideration, Chad nodded his head, “Promise.”
In the toilet, Cassie was wailing loudly as her clique surrounded her with tissues.
“He doesn’t even love her… He just wants her to be his girlfriend because she is the most popular girl in school! He told me he loves me!” Cassie bawled.
At that very moment, Juliet walked out of the cubicle located at the furthest end. Flabbergasted.
Cassie’s group of friends made themselves scarce at the speed of light.
Looking at Cassie’s face streaked with eyeliner from all the crying, Juliet handed her some tissue.
“Aren’t you… Mad at me?” Cassie blew her nose. Juliet chortled, ” Why would I be? You saved me.”
